2017 event: 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20 @ Coan Lake Historical Area, Heritage Park
The 2016 version of Relay of Life, the fundraiser to battle breast cancer, again packed Heritage Park in May. The event is always set up around Coan Lake, and starts at 10 a.m. Saturday morning and continues through that time the next day. Events included entertainment, karaoke, a hula hoop contest, Zumba, relay tug of war, the Luminaria during the evening hours and tons of other activities.
“What sets Taylor apart from other events is that we've created a fun, energetic atmosphere, almost like a carnival or block party and every year it just gets better,” organizer Sue Shufeldt said. “We've grown from 11 teams that first year to consistently having 60-65 teams.”
Between its inception in 2003 and 2011, The Relay For Life of Taylor raised over $1M dollars. Since 2012, it has added over $700,000.
